Black stainless is kitchen grade stainless steel but when forged at over 800 degrees a black oxide layer forms on the surface changing it black in colour.
 
Rocks and tongs forged from stainless steel and do not alter the taste of the whisky, hand wash and dry thoroughly. Keep at room temperature and dry when not in use!
